p. 92. “(Penrose-Fitzgerald, sub Uniacke/IFR) A square two storey early to mid-C19 house on an island just inside the entrance to Cork Harbour joined to the mainland by a causeway; built to replace an earlier house by the water’s edge…sold ca 1945 to Capt R.F.U. Penrose-Fitzgerald, and then completely demolished to make way for an oil refinery.”

A two storey early 19C house. Very fine top-lit stone staircase with brass balusters. In 1814 the seat of Robert Fitzgerald [1751-1814]. Demolished to make way for Whitegate refinery.
