Ballyquin House, Ardmore, Co Waterford
Mark Bence-Jones. A Guide to Irish Country Houses (originally published as Burke’s Guide to Country Houses volume 1 Ireland by Burke’s Peerage Ltd. 1978); Revised edition 1988 Constable and Company Ltd, London.
p. 27. “(Massy, B/PB; Carlyon, sub Kinahan/IFR) a Georgian house overlooking the sea, owned in recent years by Mrs Hugh Massy who completely remodelled the interior so that the ground floor now consists only of a vast hall, containing the elegant and spacious wooden Georgian stair, and a vast reception room. The plaster has been stripped from the walls of both rooms to expose the bare stone and the ceilings removed to reveal the joists and undersides of the floorboards above, which have been stained brown. The effect is somewhat Spanish, or Latin American. Ballyquin was recently the home of Mr and Mrs Peter Carlyon.”
