p. 206. “(Morley/LGI1958) A three storey early to mid-C19 house, slightly Italianate in flavour, with a deep curved bow in the centre of one of its fronts and a pierced roof parapet. A seat of the Malcolmson family, who founded the great cotton mills at Portlaw in early C19, which brought great prosperity to the town. Passed through marriage to the Morelys, who sold post death of Miss Violet Morley, 1950.”

Milfort House was another property held by the Malcomson family in Portlaw. It was part of a complex designed by the well-known architect John Skipton Mullvaney. Milfort was demolished in the mid-twentieth century but some estate architecture survives.
