Ballykean House, BALLYKEAN (PENROSE), County Wicklow

Detached five-bay two-storey over part basement country house, built c.1780. The ground floor and first floor appear to be split-level. The house is finished in render. To the north-east there is a single-storey c.1990s addition. The Venetian window style door case has panelled double doors with sidelights and a semi-circular spider’s web fanlight over. Window openings are flat-headed with six over six timber sash frames. The hipped roof is set behind a parapet with a corbelled coping and is finished with natural slate and cast-iron rainwater goods. Chimneystacks have plain caps and clay pots. The house is set within a small well wooded demesne.

Appraisal

This late 18th century house is in very good original condition. It compliments its surroundings and adds much to the local heritage.
